Purpose:

If a second or (secondary) additional battery is to be installed in a vehicle, the installation of an isolating relay is highly recommended. The purpose of installing this relay is to disconnect the two batteries when the engine is off. The secondary (second battery) is only switched on when the engine is switched on. The voltage dependent relay (BSR) allows two batteries to be charged at the same time. If a voltage of more than 13.3 volts is reached with the engine running, the relay picks up and the secondary battery is charged in addition to the primary battery. If you switch off the engine, the on-board voltage falls below 12.8 volts and the relay separates the main battery from the second battery. In this way, the batteries cannot discharge one another if they are not used for a long time. When the engine is running, both batteries are then charged via the alternator. This relay is also suitable for CAN bus vehicles. No alternator control voltage or ignition plus is required.
